“FIND YOUR FIRE STATION”
“Find
Your Fire Stati0n” is a simplex exercise to test the ability of amateur
radio, using 2 meter FM simplex to communicate throughout the Wake
County and surrounding areas, utilizing fire stations as the operating
base. The exercise is designed to be independent of our repeater
infrastructure. We realize that the repeater infrastructure may be
damaged or inoperable due to a number of reasons; storms, blizzards,
flood, earthquake, tornado or others. During an emergency incident,
amateurs, working mobile from vehicles, portable stations, field
stations and/or temporary locations could relay damage assessment
information and assist with other emergency communication needs.
We will conduct this exercise on Saturday May 17th
beginning promptly at 8:30 am. We should be finished by noon. During
the next two (2) ARES emergency nets, any amateur may volunteer to
participate in this exercise. If you are available to participate, we
would like you to locate a fire station close to your neighborhood (a
list of area fire stations can be found at: www.carolinasfirepage.com/members/nc_ctys.html ), note the address ,county and station number and notify net control during the Thursday night net, or e-mail the exercise coordinator John Snellen ai4rt. The e-mail address is ai4rt@hotmail.com, with
your fire station location information. We will then send you a copy of
this announcement and the General Guidelines for the exercise. We will
repeat this announcement during the next two (2) nets.
On Saturday May 17th,
at 8:30 am we will have a check-in and coordination net on the primary
ARES repeater (146.88). Following that we will call-out all stations to
“FIND YOUR DESIGNATED FIRE STATION”. This simplex exercise will use the
Wake County ARES primary simplex frequency 147.450. A brief
post exercise review will be held on the 146.88 repeater at the
conclusion of the event. The exercise should be completed before noon
on Saturday, May 17th.
