     Wake County ARES

There are two email lists for Wake County ARES:

wakeares-list  This is the HOT list and the sole purpose of this list is to convey information regarding activation notices, stand-down notices and other similar time valued traffic.  This list has a nearly 100% signal-to-noise ratio and all Wake ARES members should subscribe.  Click here.

wakeares-mail  This is the Wake ARES General Information list. This list will be utilized for general administrative contact between Wake County ARES members, regarding special nets, training, meetings, etc.  Click here.

OTHER.   Back in 1999, then EC Matt Sickles W2BYV began a mailing list for Wake County ARES, using the facilities of "Onelist".  About 50 Wake ARES members have joined the list since then.  Onelist has been absorbed by YahooGroups, which now hosts the list.
As of April 2001, our current administration has not endorsed this mailing list.  Some ARES members have objected to the need to register with Yahoo (and Onelist before that) to subscribe to the list.  Others have objected to the "advertising" line added to e-mail messages.
To subscribe to the Yahoo sponsored list, visit this web page and prepare to spill your guts... or at least an e-mail address...

    NC SECTION DIGITAL INITIATIVE LIST
Are you interested in exploring and expanding the use of digital communications in the NC Section for ARES and NTS traffic?
As of September 03 2001, the NC ARES digital initiative email listserver is operational.  Anyone interested in participating in this project should subscribe to the list, at it will be the most immediate means of sharing information.  Note that all NC amateurs are welcome to participate - this is NOT an ARES-only, or Wake County-only project.
This project needs input from all interested amateurs, particularly
those with current digital messaging experience.  As various milestones are reached a summary will be posted here on the Wake County ARES web site.
Note that this is NOT a general digital modes discussion forum.  It is specifically focussed toward developing means to facilitate digital messaging related to Emergency Communications throughout the State of North Carolina.  Also note that bulletins and announcements that are available via other means of communications should NOT be po#What?sted on this list.  Messages posted should be cogent and of interest to all subscribers.

    To subscribe:

Go to http://rtpnet.org/mailman/options/ncares-digital/  and fill in the blanks.

    What's a Mailing List?

For those not familiar with it, an e-mail "Mailing List" is a service that allows large and small groups to easily distribute e-mail messages and bulletins to all members of the group.  (Mailing lists are also called "reflectors", "listserv" and "listservers".)    All members of the group "subscribe" to the mailing list.  Then, instead of individuals having to keep track of dozens (or hundreds or thousands) of e-mail addresses, anyone who wants to address the group just sends one e-mail to the service address, and the service copies the message to everyone subscribed.

Note:  you MUST subscribe using your "real" email address.  Aliases such as reflector addresses like "n4tab@arrl.net" won't work.  Your subscriber address must match the identity address that you've put into your email program and which appears as "From: whenever you send an email.  (Note that if you have more than one address, such as office and home, you can subscribe from each, separately; i.e., you can be subscribed to the list using more than one email ID.)
